Social Networking, Making the Recruiting Process More Personal

As a Human Resources Software company our main focus is on people and innovation.  Social networking is a pioneer for both of these key priorities.  We strive to be on the forefront of technology and for open communication with our peers and users.  With that in mind, we aim to make our Twitter as informative as possible.  It is a great way to network with others who are interested in HR and payroll technology and reach those keeping up with the latest company and industry news.  Social media however , is not just for keeping up-to-date on news and trends, it also plays a role in the recruiting process.

Dan Klamm, the outreach and marketing coordinator at Syracuse University’s Office of Career Services highlights some key points in his blog about the importance of social media in the college recruiting process.  One tip he proposes is to make it personal, “show that there are real people behind your corporate HR accounts,” he writes.  “This can be accomplished quite simply. Just include a line in your bio with the names of the people who update your account or feature their photos somewhere on the page.”  People will appreciate seeing something more than just your logo.

Klamm also suggests skipping the press releases in a social media setting.  “Your happy and successful employees are your best asset. Let them show off why they enjoy working at your organization in real, authentic ways,” notes Klamm.  But most importantly, Klamm writes, “If you’re fumbling with Facebook while your competitor is developing a mobile careers app, students might judge your company in a negative way. When trying to recruit a generation who is ahead of the curve technologically, you need to stay ahead of the curve as well.”  The moral to the story, get with it HR managers!

NuView makes it a priority to always be up to date on the latest Human Resources news because the HR field is not just about software, it’s about people.  Employees mean a lot more than numbers on a computer.  We take pride in knowing that because of us, employers can focus on what is really important.  This social media phenomenon is currently raining supreme.  Be approachable and authentic.  Klamm also reminds employers that students want to work for companies that are perceived as technologically superior.  “Now is a time of exciting possibilities in the world of campus recruiting,” Klamm insists.  “For companies that put time, energy and strategic thought into connecting with college students through social media, there is huge potential for pay off in the years to come.”
